Tom Stella

I have loved color for as long as I can remember. My artwork is rather eclectic in style, and many of my pieces have taken years to complete. I use sketchbooks for preliminary studies with extensive notes about what I am working on at the time. I use a variety of media that can inspire subject matter or transform the emotional quality of a subject. I often refer to one subject several times, changing the style and medium to alter its expression. For inspiration and for points of reference I often turn to old family photos, photography from my travels, photo collages, printed fabrics, biblical stories, and artworks created by various masters. I love to experiment, using various paints and collage. To generate ideas, I use long lengths of fabric, photo collages and photography from my travels.
